- Lit review is not an annotated bibliography

-Don't explore one theory of motivation for a page when your topic is on grammar feedback, for example. If you are discussing Skinner, you need to explain to your reader why and how that theory is related to your own research topic. Your reader should not have to do the work. 

- You need references

Show sample paragraphs that demonstrate strong and weak links to the research topic

Review Surveys

1. What ways can you chose your sampling?

2. What type of questions can you make?

3. Think of questions that will help you understand your research questions!

4. Ask students if they want to go over a PPT on questions or if they prefer to start.

Question Making 

Give everyone 15-20 minutes to work on writing up a few questions for their survey. As they work, have a representative from each group  come up and write a question on the board. Encourage them to write a question they may not be sure about. When everyone is done. Point to the question and have the the pair restate their research question. Then as a  class decide if this addresses that question. What recommendations do you have for revision. if any? 

Workshop

Allow students time to work on their projects. Circulate. For Friday, you will be placed into a group of two other projects. You will present your questions to them and they will give you feedback. Please come with as many questions as you can and some extra copies.

Friday

1. Review homework directions. 
Ask if anyone will have trouble accessing the homework schedule. I can email them the directions if so.

2. Grades
Next week I will be emailing you your grades and attendance. Please let me know if there is a problem

3. Research Questions
Get with your partner and write down your research questions on a large sheet of paper.

4. Grouping/Peer Review
Get into groups with three groups of three. Make a list of all the problems you have learned that can occur with making questions. Then, make another list of tips you have for making questions. Go over problematic questions with students.

5. Start Review

STEPS:

1. Pick a group to go first
2. Explain research questions and show them to the group
3. Explain how who they will sample
4. Explain how you will select your sample
5. Explain the type/number of instruments you want to you.
6. Give the instrument in the way that you would with your sampling
7. Go over each questions, discussing strengths and weaknesses and offering advice
8. Repeat with the next group
