Pull up homework schedule and clarify any questions for students. Major first draft is due next Sunday evening.

Reflection Essay

• Reflect upon the steps you have taken this far in the research process to answer the following questions:

 1. What did you find to be the most challenging part of the research process thus far?
 2. What part of the research process did you find to be the least challenging?
 3. If you could do the process over again, what would you do differently?
 4. Is there anything new you learned about research that you did not already know from your    past research classes?


Review Basic Paragraph Structure
Give very brief lecture on paragraph structure and then give students 30 minutes to work in pairs to build their own paragraphs. After students are done, have them switch their paragraphs with another group to identify the sections.

Day 12

By the end of the class, students will be able to...

• Identify the main parts to an introduction paragraph
• Distinguish Introduction writing from Justification writing
• Place their objectives correctly into their paper

Warm-Up Scramble:

Give students cut out pieces of the outline and have them place them into order. Then, give them explanations of the sections and have them match them with the headings.  Show OUTLINE when students are done and go over the parts.

Hamburger Paragraph:
To review paragraph structure, have them do an activity with the hamburger graphic organizer.

Review Last Class:
In addition to the PIE structure, review the following:

• Reporting verbs-Do not use says and tell!
• Show them banned word list
• Show them transition error handout
• Option: Go over academic language tips

Focus on Introduction

(Make a handout for the following)

• What headings and subheadings goes into the introduction section?
• What content should go under each subheading?
• What should not go into the the introduction section?
• How many pages should the introduction be?
• What language and phrases are common in the introduction?
• What language and phrases are common in the justification?

On Sunday, your first draft of the literature review is due. Let's review the main principles to this section. Look on the second page of the chart handout after the introduction.
